‘Combination Attack Smooth Bore HR’ High Rise Fire Nozzle
The performance requirements of a fire nozzle designed for use in High Rise buildings is quite different to those required for firefighting at ground level for a number of reasons.
Delta Fire have always realised that whilst they are specialists in the field of fire nozzle manufacture, it is the professional front line firefighter that is best placed to assess his or her requirements when it comes to performance.
The inherent problem faced by brigade personnel in a high rise building fire is the loss of water pressure on upper floors which directly affects the performance of the nozzle potentially increasing the risk.
In 2012 Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service decided to carry out trials to find a replacement branch that was suited to operational incidents where high flow rates were required. Whilst conducting these pressure and flow tests a further potential hazard was also noted concerning the possible obstruction of the hose line from debris introduced through the rising main where previous incidents in other parts of the country had proved this not to be a new problem. Three documented accounts of branch blockages from the rising main could have led to total water failure.
With these issues in mind HFRS trialed a number of manufacturer’s branches in an attempt to improve High Rise Nozzle performance.
Delta Fire specialises in bespoke Fire Nozzle manufacture and after lengthy consultation and a subsequent visit to Delta’s Norfolk based facility by the team from HFRS, Delta produced the ‘Combination Attack Smooth Bore HR’. This specialist High Rise Nozzle fulfilled all the criteria by combining the attributes of two already well respected, tried and tested nozzles – The Attack 500 and the Smooth Bore. The adaptation and integration of these branches by Delta’s technical team ensured the necessary flow rates and subsequent performance was achieved.
This High Rise Nozzle has two interchangeable front ends providing different performance as required. With the ‘Attack’ front end fitted you have a powerful jet/spray nozzle which maintains performance at low and variable pressures. Should the ‘Attack’ front end become blocked by debris it can be easily and quickly replaced with the smooth bore which provides a solid jet of water designed clear any blockages. Two tip sizes are provided to meet the specific needs of the firefighter. The solid jet is also ideal for gas cooling making this nozzle the perfect all-rounder for High Rise firefighting.
