Dry Riser – Gate Valves
Under normal circumstances there is only one single gate valve at each floor level on a Dry Riser installation but on certain occasions Fire & Rescue Services may advise Building Control Departments that two should be provided at each location, this is often dependant on individual circumstances in relation to access and the physical area requiring protection from risk of fire.
These gate valves should ideally be located in well ventilated and fire-resistant lobbies or within the fire fighting shafts. Alternatively the Fire Services may allow other suitable locations such as stairwells.
On Dry Riser systems a gate valve should preferably be provided at roof level for test purposes. BS9900 code of practice for non-automatic fire fighting systems in buildings (2006) requires that the gate valve must be installed with its lowest point at 750mm above floor level.
Delta Fire’s dry riser gate valves are fully compliant with BS 5041 Part 2 and should be installed within a ‘locked shut’ dry riser outlet cabinet. The glass panel on the cabinet is designed to be broken in an emergency situations allowing full access for hose attachment.
