Water Delivery – Dividing / Collecting Manifolds
Collecting Manifolds (often referred to as collecting heads) form part of Delta Fire’s water delivery range and are used to feed water from one or more standpipes to the pump inlet of a fire tender.
Initially the standpipe will be connected to the underground hydrant valve, the standpipe will exit above ground and a hose will then feed the water from the standpipe to the Brigades pump. To facilitate multiple water feeds to the pump from more than one hydrant/standpipe the collecting head is screwed on to the fire trucks pump inlet allowing for the connection of multiple hoses.
The outlet may be any size to suit the pump inlet connection but the standard outlet connections are 3″, 4″ and 5½” female round thread to BS336.
Collecting Heads with in-line or angled inlets have a swivel outlet connection. Those with radial inlets have a fixed outlet connection. Standard Inlet connections are 2½” male instantaneous although other connections (including International) can be fitted as ‘specials’.
The number and configuration of the inlets may vary, for example an in-line configuration may have 2, 3, 4 or 5 inlets, an angled configuration may have 2 or 3 inlets and a radial configuration may have 3 or 4 inlets. Inlets are fitted with non-return valves to prevent leakage when not in use or feed-back of water when the mains supply is cut off.
When ordering a manifold you will need to provide certain information to ensure that the right product from Delta’s water delivery range is supplied – the number and configuration of inlets, the inlet connection, the outlet connection and the finish (polished or unpolished).
Blank caps and chains are available for all manifolds and should be ordered as a separate item.
Delta Fire stock a comprehensive range of British and International Fire Fittings to suit their range of water delivery equipment.
