FAQs

A suction hose is a specialised fire hose used to draw water from unpressurised or static sources such as lakes, rivers, ponds, swimming pools, dry hydrants, or water tanks when a pressurised supply is not available. It is commonly used by fire and rescue services, industrial operators, and marine teams to fill appliance tanks or supply pumps in remote or emergency situations. Delta Fire suction hoses are reinforced with a PVC spiral wall to provide flexibility, crush resistance, and reliable vacuum performance. They can be supplied loose or pre‑assembled with BSRT couplings, ensuring quick deployment and safe water transfer during firefighting or other operational needs.

A suction hose is used to draw water from static or unpressurised sources when a pressurised supply is unavailable. Fire and rescue services commonly use it to fill appliance tanks or supply pumps from lakes, rivers, ponds, swimming pools, or dry hydrants. It is also used by industrial, marine, and offshore operators for emergency water supply or operational water delivery. The hose’s reinforced construction allows it to maintain its shape under vacuum, ensuring a reliable flow of water to firefighting pumps or other equipment

A suction hose works by creating a vacuum or negative pressure that allows water to be drawn from a static or unpressurised source into a pump. One end of the hose is connected to the pump inlet, and the other end is placed into a water source such as a tank, pond, or river. When the pump operates, it removes air from the hose, creating suction that draws water into the hose and delivers it under pressure to the pump outlet. Delta Fire suction hoses are reinforced with a PVC spiral wall or similar durable materials to maintain shape, resist collapsing, and ensure continuous flow, even under full vacuum conditions. This makes them essential for firefighting, industrial, marine, and emergency water supply operations.

A hard suction hose is a reinforced, rigid or semi-rigid type of suction hose designed to draw water from static or unpressurised sources while maintaining its shape under vacuum. Unlike flexible suction hoses, hard suction hoses are typically made with steel wire reinforcement or heavy-duty PVC spirals, which prevent the hose from collapsing when connected to a pump. They are commonly used by fire and rescue services, industrial operators, and marine teams to ensure a reliable, uninterrupted water supply from tanks, rivers, ponds, or other water sources in emergency or remote operations.

A soft suction hose is a flexible type of suction hose designed to draw water from static or unpressurised sources while being easier to handle and coil than rigid hoses. Made from reinforced PVC, rubber, or polyurethane, it maintains its shape under moderate vacuum conditions but is lighter and more maneuverable than a hard suction hose. Soft suction hoses are commonly used by fire and rescue services, industrial teams, and marine operators to supply pumps from tanks, ponds, rivers, or temporary water sources where mobility and quick deployment are required.

A hard suction hose is commonly used to draw water from static or unpressurised sources in situations where a reliable, uninterrupted flow is required. Fire and rescue services use it to fill appliance tanks or supply pumps from rivers, ponds, lakes, or portable water tanks during firefighting operations. It is also used in marine, industrial, and offshore applications where hoses may need to withstand rough handling or high vacuum pressures. The reinforced construction of hard suction hoses prevents collapse under vacuum, ensuring consistent water delivery even in demanding environments.
